Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Tally ("Tally," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Tally application and website at tallyshows.com and its subdomains (collectively, the "Service").
Tally is operated by the individuals behind Tally (the "Operators"), based in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at tallyshows.support@gmail.com.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Who this policy is for
Tally is a business tool for artists and makers who sell at shows and markets. This policy applies to people who create a Tally account and use the Service to track their own show and sales data.
Tally is intended for use by adults (18 years or older) running their own creative businesses. The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us directly.
- Account information — your name and email address when you create an account or join a beta program.
- Business information you enter — shows you attend, dates, locations, booth fees, application deadlines, expenses, notes, category/medium, and any other details you choose to record.
- Uploaded files — spreadsheets you import and receipt images you upload.
- Communications — messages, feedback, or bug reports you send us.
Information from Square (only if you connect it). If you choose to connect your Square account, Tally uses Square's API — with your explicit authorization through Square's secure OAuth process — to read information needed to show you your sales and profit, including: order and transaction records, payment details (such as tender type and processing fees), your product catalog, and inventory counts.
You control this connection and can disconnect it at any time. Your Square account and its underlying data remain in your Square account — Tally reads from Square to display and organize your information; we do not control or own your Square data.
Information collected automatically.
- Error and diagnostic data — we use Sentry to detect and fix crashes and errors. This captures technical information such as error messages, the type of device or browser, and the app version. We scrub personal and financial information from these error reports — sales figures, customer details, and similar sensitive data are not included in the diagnostic data sent to Sentry.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide the Service — organize your shows, sales, expenses, and profit, and show you your own business insights.
- Connect to Square (when you authorize it) and keep your displayed data current.
- Create, secure, and support your account.
- Send you essential communications about the Service, including beta invitations you request.
- Detect, diagnose, and fix technical problems (via scrubbed error reports).
- Improve the Service, including by understanding what features artists need.
We do not use your individual sales figures or customer information for advertising, and we do not share them with other users.
4. Aggregated, anonymous insights
A core part of Tally's mission is to eventually help artists understand which shows are worth doing. To do this, Tally may use aggregated and anonymized data derived from many artists' records.
We want to be completely clear about what this means:
- Your individual numbers are never shown to anyone else. No other user can see your sales, your profit, your customers, or the fact that any specific figure is yours.
- Only combined, anonymous statistics are ever used or shown — such as averages and ranges across many artists for a given show. These are calculated in a way that does not identify you and does not reveal any individual artist's figures.
- We do not publish a directory of our users and do not expose who uses Tally.
- We never include customer or buyer information (any third-party personal information you may capture through your own sales) in any aggregated insight. That information is kept private to your account.
- Aggregated statistics are only produced when there are enough contributions for a figure to be meaningful and non-identifying.
If we ever offer these aggregated insights, they will continue to follow these principles.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use trusted third parties to operate the Service, specifically: Supabase (database and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Clerk (account authentication), and Sentry (error reporting, with personal and financial data scrubbed). These providers process data only to provide their services to us.
- Square. If you connect Square, information is exchanged with Square under your authorization and Square's own terms and privacy policy.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tally, our users, or others.
- Business transfer. If the Service is ever transferred to another operator, your information may transfer as part of that transaction; we would notify you and this policy would continue to apply.
We do not share your individual business data with other users, ever.
6. How your data is stored and protected
Your data is stored using Supabase (a managed PostgreSQL database and file storage service). We take reasonable measures to protect it, including:
- Tenant isolation — each account's data is separated so that one user cannot access another user's data.
- Access controls — receipt images and files are kept in private storage and served only to the account that owns them.
- Encryption — data is protected in transit and at rest through our infrastructure providers.
No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information using appropriate safeguards.
Your data is stored on infrastructure located in the United States.
7. Your choices and rights
You have control over your information:
- Access and edit — you can view and edit your business data directly in the app at any time.
- Export — you can export your data (for example, as a spreadsheet) at any time.
- Disconnect Square — you can revoke Tally's access to your Square account at any time.
- Delete your account and data — you can delete your account and your personal data at any time. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data and business records. Any anonymized, aggregated statistics that can no longer be linked to you may be retained, since they do not identify you.
- Opt out of communications — you can ask us to stop sending non-essential emails.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA) or, for some users, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — including the right to know what personal information we hold, to correct or delete it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at tallyshows.support@gmail.com and we will respond as required by applicable law.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
8. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and business records. We may retain anonymized, aggregated data (which does not identify you), and we may retain limited records where required by law.
9. Third-party services
The Service integrates with or relies on third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies, including:
- Square — square.com
- Supabase — supabase.com
- Vercel — vercel.com
- Clerk — clerk.com
- Sentry — sentry.io
If you access the Service through the Google Play Store or (in the future) the Apple App Store, those platforms' terms and privacy practices also apply.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you connect to Tally, particularly Square.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
11. Contact us
